United Nations
In 1994, PRIDE was “accredited” by the United Nations for International Women’s Year (IWY) attendance. PRIDE through its Border Economic Development Council, provided significant contributions to the World Bank and the Pan American Health Organization in addressing significant border and bilateral issues between the United States and Mexico. This combined with PRIDE success with the indigenous community, provided a special advocacy and liaison role for the border region and the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).
In 1999, PRIDE was recognized by the United Nations under Special Consultative Status to ECOSOC. This official status permits PRIDE to be permanently represented at the United Nations in New York, Vienna, and Geneva in various capacities addressing humanitarian issues, especially involving women and children issues. PRIDE is intent on bridging regional bias through cross-cultural links into policy and program areas of the United Nations.
